I originally applied for entrance in their Med/Surg Nursing graduate program, since that was the closest to being applicable to my field of specialization. Before we made the move to San Antonio, the school contacted me and notified me that they were piloting a new Nursing Service Administration major in the Fall, and asking if I would like to enroll in that major instead. That was exactly what I wanted, and I was one of 11 students in the new Admin major, nearly all of us military, when classes started in Aug. 1983. I enjoyed the experience very much. Those of us in this first group developed a rapport and were supportive of each other and the program. Having the Master's Degree and being available at the right time led to my being offered the OR Nursing Course Director position at MAMC when I graduated in December, 1984, even though I was still a Captain (on the Major's promotion list, which took about 2 years) and it was a senior Major/Lieutenant Colonel position.
