The banana slug, or Ariolimax columbianus, is a native species in British Columbia, thriving in the province's temperate coastal rainforests. These slugs are easily identifiable by their bright yellow or brownish color and often black spots, and are known for their impressive size, being the second largest slug species in the world. They are important decomposers, feeding on decaying matter and recycling nutrients within the ecosystem.
