This is taken from an actual slice of tree that's used to decorate our office. I've tried to photograph it with my phone before, but there's usually a glare and it's very low contrast, so I was never happy with the results. The BW conversion definitely helps, and a lot of playing with contrast, structure, sharpening etc. Now it looks more like the picture in my head that I was hoping to achieve.
