Removal of a Nanaimo Land Mark, the old Tally Ho, with a new apartment building in the back ground. The site was occupied by a saw mill from 1870s to about 1930.
The 50-room Tally Ho Motor Hotel opened in the summer of 1961 and saw untold numbers of hockey teams and two deaths. Closed down in 2017.
Snuneymuxw First Nation Chief Michael Wyse announced on Monday, July 15, 2024 the return of 6.6 acres (2.67 hectares), the site of the former Howard Johnson Hotel, through a joint purchase by the province and the First Nation.
