Cameron Lake, Highway 4, Vancouver Island, BC

Vancouver Island's fully paved Highway 4 connecting Parksville on the East Coast to Port Albernie (48km), Ucluelet and Tofino on the West Coast is scenic and can be treacherous.
Passing big rigs around this corner on the south Cameron Lake portion can be scary. Fires also did major damage to the stability of the steep slopes in this area in 2023, causing long closures and a detour via Highway 18, past Lake Cowichan towards Bamfield and north to the west coast (230km). This detour was long (over 4 hrs), hard on vehicles, and slow.

That's one spot I would hurry through (carefully)
