Thank-you Gail,
I didn't have much choice about the f/stop since I was at the long end of this lens. As for the poppy, I had to de-saturate the red channel a bit which brought out more detail in the petals. I then added a levels layer, and a hi-pass with overlay blend mode. Flattened and sharpened with usm.

Like Heather said, there's amazing brilliance in the colours, and I love the DOF you used and the light-and-shadow within the flower itself. So very sharp and vivid.
