I do have to laugh when I see this totem pole. :)
Ya wonder if the natives knew what they were carving(building) when they did this design. :)))

This is funny Brent! I like the brighter PP in this as the colors and detailed carving and the birds stand out better now. :-) CJ

Thanks Bruce, I played with the color a little and think it is looking better.

Wonderful subject and a good composition. I think it has a bit of a blue color cast to it though. I might boost those greens, magentas, and reds to add accents and pull back on the blue. -- Bruce

Yes the 2.8 is way too heavy for the reach of the lens. Maybe the lack of comments has to do wiv the birds topic as I'm finding the galleries quite boring. Itsa a bit like collecting stamps its very interesting for collectors & boring as L for most others. So we need more shots like this one to maintain interest, I haven't found bugger all yet:-)

I think Mae would have liked it too Rod ;-) I don’t think it is too racy for this group, but with so little interaction going on it is hard to gauge what shots are crowd pleasers. Hopefully things will liven up soon or the few people who have posted will start tossing good shots for lack of any comments.
I like the lens a lot. I wish it had more reach for this challenge especially, but most of the time it seems fine and there is always the 1.4X adapter (though it isn’t cheap). Weight was a concern for me when selecting a telephoto as I carry it around a lot just in case and think if this one were heavier I would often leave it out of my bag. I don’t think the extra couple of stops I would get from a 2.8 lens would be worth the extra weight in my circumstance. The same model with IS would be nice and I find myself wishing for it sometimes, but it is a lot more expensive- maybe someday. For now I’m happy to raise the ISO to keep the shutter speed up without the IS and enjoy the bargain price of what I have. I think it is about the least expensive “L” lens Canon makes (or maybe that is my only other “L” lens- the 17-40), yet it is built really solid and focuses quick and quiet. I do sometimes wish it were black because the white lens seems to draw attention to it when I would rather be anonymous (it makes people think I actually know what I am doing).

Mae West would have loved this picy as I do:-) Really funny Brent & just a little naughty. I think this is the sort of picys we need to maintain interest. Great work mate.
How do you like that lens? It's one I'm looking at when I upgrade, not sure if I should pay out for the IS or not. Well done Brent:-)

Thanks Tommy, Penny and Oved. There are a few totems near the waterfront in Seattle. I'm not sure how old they are and should find out, but the faded paint and moss growth offer clues suggesting they have been there for some time.

The totem makes the image. /Oved

They fit right in! Nice looking dude on the pole too. I like the mutedness of this shot.

These pigeons seem to be every where in the northern latitudes. Nice totem details - kind of moody and old looking even if not. -tv
