Spying on the NYPD

Times Sq NYPD

"Rules": Don't try sneaky pics; avoid tilt; carefully frame in the viewfinder... but this is a story of vectors bouncing around the frame and of some color play, reds aganist blues in gray. The disbursed effects are somehow appealing to me and the tilt adds to the vectors. There's also a play of depth vs a kind of flatness derived from the downward angle and competing prominent elements.

I don't know about broken rules here, but I like this shot, it's colors & clarity.

You were very lucky. What a shot! Everything is lined up almost perfectly.
I don't think this was sneaky at all.

Thanks John. The police cars were parked, which was unusual and gave the shot more cop-like ambience than usual for Times Sq. -tv

I don't know TV since I just like your pictures. To me the white brick entrance which is on a third is a strong competitor to the cones that are not on the other third and maybe the fact that the D in the upper right is disturbingly vertical help make this image. All I know is I like it. I even like the reflection plus tilt on the distant police car makes it look like it is racing past when in fact I don't believe you can time your trigger finger this well. Tommy I'm waiting to see wot goes to Pending before commenting, that way I will have the time to enjoy Xmas with me family:-)
Like you I don't see any rules when I take a picy so I'm stumped when it comes to say if a picy has broken the rules in a good way.
The tilt works fine here especially wiv the two vehicle's going in the same direction.....Oopps maybe that means it conforms to the rules:-)hehe

OK, L. Here it is again with some justification. Judging from the lack of response, even from Rod, no one but I am enjoying this shot. Oh well, "beauty is in the eye..." as they say.

Aww, Teev... you didn't justify - and I think if you tried, you'd have a hard time. IMO, it's just not working and you didn't even try to convince me it was. Primary subject - cones? Secondary subject - station? I'm not getting any story here; I'm not sure why you took the picture or what you are trying to say. Sorry. Unqualified - unless you can somehow explain why you broke the rules and why it helped the image. ~ Lonnit
