RULE: Avoid Distracting Backgrounds WHY I BROKE IT: Enhance The Subject

A distracting background can take away from the subject, but in this case I think the focus is on Mya as it leads the eye and enhances the face. (geez i hope i did this right lol) oh... and one tip...practice with your new lens first before posting your first few shots (i just brought this puppy home tonite) !! p.s. ya pun intended

jano, I think that the halo-light behind Mya's head is all that you need. If you even cropped part of Mya's ear so the eyes line up on the third, I think you have a stronger shot and you break the cut off body parts rule. John

Who said no light? I'm talking crop or slight repositioning of the camera position, no change in lighting at all. :) ~ Lonnit

Ya, "enhance" may not be the word... but it would be a pretty flat picy if no light was there at all.... So I think it works considering if there was no light. jano

Qualified, however erroneous thinking. ;) I'll accept your justification as you seem sincere about it. I do not agree with you about the bright spots. I find they pull me away from the dog and I simply follow their curve, fighting, unsuccessfully to get back to the dog. Hold your hand over the left side of the image and watch how your eyes suddenly play back and forth between the dogs eyes and the the glow around him. The highlight in his eyes then become the brightest point in the image, helping to draw the viewer back to the pooch eyes. ~ Lonnit
