thanks mcbitt - Debi

In the lands of India the actual translation of the word purdah is screen or veil. Purdah is the practice that includes the seclusion of women from public ...

A nice pair Debi, this looks much more interesting than the simple Henna applied in the middle east. -mcbit
Rod 02-Nov-2007 20:17
The purdah sounds quite painful I hope you get out of it soon, wot's a purdah?:-)
ctfchallenge02-Nov-2007 07:53
cant post my photo, I am in purdah - Debi
Rod 02-Nov-2007 07:17
Yes this looks a lot better although I was looking forward to seeing Debi's forehead:-)

thanks for all the feedback and suggestions.
John mehendi is applied with a flexible cone, bit like whats used for icing on cakes. The paste of the mehendi leaf is used. The dark brown 'icing" dries off and the pattern is left behind in shades of rust/orange. You can see a bit on the index finger. Debi

The change works for me - it really does look like and offering with the leading lines of the fingers! CJ

NOW that's connecting. A stroke of brilliance. I like the change very much. ~Lydia

Debi, I tend to react to a visual impression only (while enjoying the emotional reaction without letting it intrude too much), which I find usually works when the image is sensitively rendered, even across cultures and continents. I find a convincing relationship between the hand and rose here with the open palmed hand leading to the offered object, a choice itself full of meaning across cultures. The fact that the hand is so elegently decorated by an apparent master adds a contrasting note of vitality to the combined shots. I didn't see earlier versions, but this is something to be proud of. For only one year of shooting, this result is outstanding. -tv

Debi, do you have the painting instrument they use or even them applying the ink? This would also look cool. I remember seeing them apply this on some education channel in high def. You have captured the hand very well and at just the correct angle to see how thick the paint is. John

That's some fingerprint..! Nice combo :)

Abstract - I should have clarified the flower is an offering to god or to a loved one. Here the mehendi was done for Karva Chauth a festival in North India where the wife fasts for the husbands health ( or may be its well being). - Debi

Not my hands, I dont have the patience to sit still for 45 minutes while they apply the gunk. and leave it to dry for hours. Hehe. And dont tell any one but I cant drape a saree so I never wear one . Debi

I agree... "A rose is a rose..." but that hand is something else! I like the hand shot very much, but can't understand the relationship to the rose, Debi. Congrats on coming so far in only one year! Well done. ~Lydia

beautiful mehndi. did you get nice dark color? were you just trying to convey the "smell" relationship with flower and mehndi? I personally cannot stand mehndi's smell though.
btw Rod's idea is nice. a girl in wedding sari would be a perfect choice for a pair.

Beautiful painting on the hand Debi! I too would like to see something other than the rose paired with the lovely hand image, something culturally related maybe? CJ
Rod 31-Oct-2007 10:17
I don't believe you about your eyes I bet they look lovely:-) How about just the forehead with the coloured spot & sari on the head (hoping the headdress is part of a sari) as I don't mean putting the dress on your head:-) Please don't tell me you haven't got a very nice forehead:-)

Ok Rule # 4 - size specifications. Got it - Debi
ctfchallenge31-Oct-2007 06:45
Hate reading the rules. I was sure some one will point it out if I am wrong. :P
Will try to redo or move to pending. And whats Rule # 4 ?

Thanks for the feedback. Actually I her eyes are not that great. But there may be some one else willing to model.

Quality of submissions unfortunately varies - but this is my first camera purchased exactly a year ago- so still a total novice.

- Debi

Debi, Debi, Debi Will you please read the bleeding rules & memorise them as we will be asking questions later:-)
Lovely hand shot too & looking at it made me think that a shot of the girls eyes would have been great as the top shot. Well done.

Hey Debi, As I explaned to Armin and Techo earlier in the challenge. A picture-in-picture is not considered a straight border. Also, you're barely out of spec on Rule #4 too.

I think the quality of your submissions has gone up for this challenge though.
