Bridget*

Southern California

This is one of the fun shots I got while shooting Bridget while she was expecting baby Kate.
This is one of my first attempts at "studio lighting" (with a clip on lamp and a window) and I'd love any and all feedback about it!

Canon PowerShot S1 IS

Thanks guys. I'll see what I can do... More contrast on the skin... Wish me luck! :)

This is so joyous! Just wonderful. But as Rod and Mary Anne say her skin is a touch too bright. I am not sure but perhaps a bit more contrast for the skin areas could help that. By which I don't mean that you should make anything brighter but darken some of the shadow areas a bit. I am not at all sure that this is the correct way to go but perhaps if you played with it a bit more you could make it even better than it already is. ~Sharon

It's funny but I love this lighting for this shot, Mary Anne is correct in what she said but the overly bright skin tones & her great pose just makes this shot bursting with life & very apt. Well done Christina:-)

Thanks Mary Anne! Yeah, the window was a bit too dim for the camera I was using. I couldn't get a fast enough shutter speed to be able to capture anything. Maybe now with the DSLR... I forgot to add that I did use the onboard flash diffused with some parchment paper. One would think that with 10 years in film lighting I could do this, but lighting for motion picture is so very different from lighting for photography! It's quite crazy!

You've capture a joyous moment here, Christina. I just love the expression on her face. As for the "studio" lighting, I think you need to move your light source more to the side so that the light will cast some dramatic shadows on her face and body. This really looks too much like the built-in flash, which is not very flattering for portrait work. Or position your subject closer to the window and use a reflector (which can be as simple as a large piece of poster board) to bring out some details in the shadowed side of the face.
