I think I agree with Rod and Mary Anne on this one, Charlie. The solarization seems a bit inappropriate for this subject. How about if you desaturated the image and then darkened the background and lightened his face a bit? That might give you the starkness you are looking for. I look forward to seeing what you end up doing with this. ~Sharon

I was merely experimenting with filters, looking for something that would lend a stark and dramatic appearance to the image. I stumbled upon this one. I think I’ll try a few other approaches, to see if something else works better.

Charlie, I'm curious about why you chose to solarize this shot. I don't think it's the kind of subject that one would typically do this to...or at least I wouldn't. Not a criticism, just a question.

The effect came via "Filter - Stylize - Solarize."
