I think and (as far as I know) Armin would share the same opinion that working with this reversed lens thingy is quite challenging and fun!
there are weakpoints: obscene DOF, the danger of getting your equipment... well...ruined, no metering, no aperture value,no time shutter info, but it can be more then fun, since I'm way too poor to work with a proper macro lens, and have to use what is available.I think I'll buy the reverse ring though since it's a cheap item and will allow me to keep both eyes and hands on the body instead of the lens..
;)
thanks

I'm impressed Tom! I tried doing this kind of shot with the kit lens/50mm reversed combo (or was it the other way around?), anyway, it was very difficult to get anything in focus and get some kind of light source to even see what I was doing that I gave up. You did great! CJ

I mean the DOF with this home made setup is just obscene.
less than half mm of clear DOF.

I agree Jammy, but it was just not possible.
the setup used was very limiting. kit lens reversed, held in front of the body, and a small (mobile phone ) flash light kinda light source.
I preferred to work somewhere i nthe middle.a bit of light on the "subject"
and a bit ov shadow of the " subject"
thanks Jammy for your comments.

Yeah I tend to agree with everyone else's conclusion.
This is a really nice shot Tom, I just wish there was more light on the mosquito so we could see it's details!

And I have to say that this looks sooooo menacing :).

Very nice Tom. The shadows do give it a sinister look and the DOF is very well placed. Nice work!

Agree wiv Henry this works as a shot without saying macro, well done Tom:-)
I like where the DOF is placed too as I find it disconcerting sometimes when we only see a small slice of the subject in focus but the body shadow being in focus & not the fly thing really makes this work for me.

Great capture. I think the shadow helps create an eerie feel to the photograph.
