Restoration of Lower Surry Church in Surry County Virginia. The church, built in 1639 was burned in 1868 by Negroes during Reconstruction so the whites wouldn't reclaim the church. It has a very interesting graveyard all around it and was used as such by the 19th century black folks. In 2003, Hurrican Isabel blew a huge tree onto it. It is presently and slowly being restored.
