Just came from the lab, and the results are.... not very good. I'll keep you posted.

Good luck!

It turned into an engineering project as you said. I'll describe what I did and show pics of the setup if everything goes well. Wish me luck :)

Man, you're really getting into this! All I needed was a tomato and a toothpick.;) Let me know how your engineering project goes! Can't wait to see the photos!

Just bought a fishing line and two types of pliers (to cut and shape hanger wire). We'll see how it goes :)

Toothpick is what I did. I feel that it's pretty sharp given the edge. That was where I was really aiming to get the sharpness. I used a custom white balance to get the great colors. Glad you guys like it! Thanks for the comments!

That's what I did Techo, lots of toothpicks. I think the best combo is toothpicks and fishing lines. Have to try that.

Great job with the composition. The background complements the subject nicely.

Aam, use a toothpick to prop up the slice. Working with a tripod you should get a tack sharp image.

Oh, and it doesn't help to forget the EC on -1 either :(

I know how difficult to get sharp images for such a subjects, just ask me. Just took 23 pics of similar things and it was tough, I gave up. Need a new technique or an assistant :) I'm thinking about the fishing line technique.

This is neat. Wish it was a little sharper, still nice though.
