Thanks Cat and Abs.

Cat, yes there are two light sources. A 300 watt flood illumates the background which was at an angle. A 420ex illuminates the marbles. The flash is laying on the and shooting parallel with the glass. I did several other shots where the top left is not illuminated at all, but found this version the most attractive.

this reminds me of my childhood days of playing with marbles...a very nice perspective. -Abstract

Good one Lee, Nice angle and perpective. Just curious: Why is the color of the light different on one finger? Do you have 2 light sources? -Cat

what a wonderful idea! so well done. Great job Lee :)
(*)well if I would have to nitpick, it would be hard. A few tiny touchups... perhaps burn the midtones a bit in the bottom left hand corner, so some of the visible noise is darkened and just some cloning to remove the two specks of dust under the hand and there's that tiny scratch in the glass.

Love the colors on balls

Fair dinkum Mark, I do agree that highlights bring life into our drab existence, but not blown ones mate:-)
ctfchallenge16-Oct-2005 04:47
Don't listen to Rod, he will only confuse you! :-) What do you expect from someone living "down under"? he he. Now... the hand highlighting brings life to the hand and interest to the image IMO. Removing the highlights on the hand would make it rather.... drab and boring. Just my 2 cents. Markjay

Thanks all and one unknown. Rod, Will try to work on the highlights on my hand. theFly

Very good idea Lee, a great shot for this challenge. I really like the lighting from the top left highlighting the marbles. The only thing I'm not keen on is the harsh lighting on the hand.

Very nice, Lee. The lighting makes it special (in addition to the excellent idea).

Great! It really is a photo that can fool the eye! Never thought of that one :))))) jano

The lighting is perfect for this shot. Perfect hand position and nice layout of the marbles. In other words: Nice job! ~Britt

Thanks all. I stayed up way to late last night doing this. Finally got something I liked. Spent a few minutes this morning cleaning it all up.

They are lying on the glass and the camera is shooting up.

I think they are lying on glass now that you mention it Jano, but my first thought was "whose gonna pick up the marbles?" Great idea and shot.
janewigginsphotography15-Oct-2005 11:21
Very very nice! It confuses me whether these are falling out of your hand or if they are laying on glass or under glass. jano

Excellent Lee, i really like the feel of this one.

I really like this! Creative use of shooting THROUGH glass, AT glass :-)
Also enjoying the composition and adding the hand holding the marble is a great touch! Markjay

I love marbles and this is a fun way to shoot through glass. Yvonne
