Sorry, forgot to ask, where was it taken? Buenos Aires? tnxs.

LOL...the girl is too small to be evaluated... about the pic, it's great. The sign.. mmm.. did not bother me the first time, now that some of the viewers brought it up, a little bit darker would help, I must agree on that. But anyway, a great pic.

Thanks db. Now to add more heat, the blond girl in the background is hot!

I think it would be interesting to perhaps just simply darken the sign a tad bit and see what effect that has. The only problem I really have with the sign is that it is quite bright. I don't think trying to darken it would take away from your thoughts on legitimate ps. I think it would be hard (for me anyway) to clone it out. Nonetheless, this is a great photo inasfar as a heated discussion goes. Great job on the capture! jano

Thanks a lot, aam1234!! I always knew you're a real friend I can count on *WHEN THE HEAT GETS ON* and I need some *FIRE* support from the trenches... ;-)) — db.

Agree with db. The sign is not that bad and doubt it will be noticed if it wasn't mentioned by somebody.
ctfchallenge26-Jul-2005 12:51
I confirm: I *do* agree with Sharon, but I *really* don't think it's *that* bad. At least, this very picture—as is, with sign attached to the nose et all—won the ctfchallenge 37 («Communication») in the «Exhibition» category (two years ago, back in August 2003) without anyone mentionning The Nose Problem at the time... — db.

Well, I don't know if I would have stated it as eloquently as Sharon did, but I would definitely have noticed the sign. LOL. I guess I'm not as much of a purist as you are, but I would either darken it or clone the thing out. I draw the line at adding something that's not there, but when an element detracts from an otherwise good image, I say use the tools you have to do something about it. The darn thing is so bright that it keeps drawing the eyes right to it and away from those very expressive faces. Your call, though...do what feels right to you.

I know I could, Mary Anne; but I won't. This would—in *my* book (everyone has their own feelings about this)—push the limit slightly of what I consider legitimate processing of a picture. Anyway: Though I do agree with Sharon («Too bad...»), I don't, OTOH, find the sign *that* obtrusive either (be honest: would you, all by yourself, have noticed?). — db.
ctfchallenge25-Jul-2005 15:17
You know, I'll bet you could do something in PS to lessen the obtrusive impact of the sign. I'm not sure I know how, but someone else can probably offer directions for doing so. Otherwise, it's a good capture.

That´s what happens when not composing very carefully in the *HEAT* of the moment in street photography. A dSLR with its possibility of limiting your DOF gives you a sort of second oportunity; but with a compact digicam you just blew it. The only thing you can do... is to agree humbly. Yes, Sharon, you´re right: «Too bad about the sign attached to the cook´s nose!». And, BTW, thanks a lot for taking the time to comment! — db.

Great people shot! Too bad about the sign attached to the left-hand cook's nose! ~Sharon
