Feb 2005 Abstract

Ohm *

I love photography and these challenges have given me ample opportunities to learn from experienced people.
Here is my take on Nico's "peace-sign" technique. Instead of over-exposing the writings, I used smaller lamp to preserve more details in the background (was required for the purpose).
I shot this image for one of my friends' meditation class material. Because of the sinister look on my face, I used another image with closed eyes, but this one is still my favourite of the bunch.
My personal favourite part of the image is the my right eye behind the writing.

15 sec exposure. wrote "ohm"(in sanskrit) with a head-lamp in total darkness in 12 sec and turned on lights for the last 3 sec.

"monk gone mad"...i burst into laughter when i read that. Ioana, i love your ability to come-up with photo-titles. may be i should email you the photo for the title suggestions before posting. btw, i got the orange color by fooling the camera's WB. kept it on fluorescent and used a regular yellow-bulb.
Thank you Rod. i used writing for the purpose this shot was taken (and to try the new technique too).
Cat, i needed a strong element that, as Shu has nicely said, pulls the viewer into the shot...so i tried this intense look with sharp eyes.
Thank you all for your comments.

This is a nicely done. I can see the dfficulty in this one. Kudos to you, Abs. Why the sinister look though? -Cat

This isn't my cup of tea as far as photo's go but it all contributes to our learning curve. Strangely enough I can see a good shot behind the writing gimmick. Which you did very well Abs.

What do I like best about this? Probably the sense of depth in the writing, getting smaller and less bright from front to back. Also, the brown/orange cast works great with the "monk gone mad" look on your face.

Great shot, Abs! I really like the mood of it and the combination of colors of your suit and the wall.
After Lee's, Nico's and now your picture, I really want to try to shoot something like this.

Thanks for the technical info on this. Obviously, it has paid off and produced an outstanding image. Background, simple composition and color with the "eye" that pulls you in, has made for a stunning entry. Shu
