Beautiful abstract, very classy , for some reason it makes me think "old detective movie". Getting those shadows to look so sharp is quite an acomplisment!

Thanks for the great explanation RK! Like I said, I was obviously missing something and you've cleared it up for me. I commend you on your efforts of 60 shots - truly amazing! jano

Thanks Mary Anne, Max, Pedro, Abstract, Rich, Lonnit and Jano.
Jano, regarding the title. I was scratching my head for a title after posting the image for the challenge. The first
phrase that came to my mind was Parking Lot and decided to go with it: The chair is the place to park ones seat and the lot is the place to park ones car.

Now for the setup: went thru the kids toy basket, could find just few items that were still intact (remainded of the movie Toy Story). Selected the chair and the car (the chair is slightly bigger than the car, Mary Anne). Placed them on the table (chair was about a foot in front of the car, Max). Turned off the lights in the room, used a flash light to project the shadows on the wall.

It wasn;t as easy as I thought it would be. The problem was to get the shadows sharp. Played with different angles of lighting with flashlight.

Max, you are right, the best shadows resulted when the subjects were way off center. This did not result in secondary shadows.

Out of the 60 shots, got 3 good ones.
Post-processing: - Desaturate
- bit of curves
- good dose of USM

and thats it

Compositionally, this shot packs a great deal of impact, augmented by the rainbow lighting framing the two objects. However, I'm wondering if the chair and car are both standard size, or if it's simply a small model car next to a much larger chair.

Excellent shadow picture! I like the "rainbow" lines from the reflector and also the distortion of the chair. Did you get this effect from having the shadow way off the center of the spotlight, or from an angled background? And which is in front, the car or the chair? - Max

Just excellent! I also like the chair (instead of lets say another car), it gives the shot more impact....

RK, abstracts are always my favourite. i wish this was mine. i envy you. i loved Rich's imagination about moon too.
moon in the background, with huge chair, next to a miniature car...now that is called disproportional abstract. just a nit-pick. could you please clone out that black dot from bottom left corner please. thanks. -Abstract

Great shot......could that be the moon rising in the background? Rich

Cool! I love it! It's funny and unusual and I love that the car is parked next to a giant chair, just because it's a wierd thing for a car to be parked next to. Very creative! ~ Lonnit

Wow!!! This is so interesting and so creative. I'm not sure how you did it, but it is wonderful. If I were to make any comment for the * I would say that I would like to see a tree of some sort replace the chair as I really don't see what the chair has to do with a parking lot - but maybe i'm missing something obvious? jano
