I like this beam of light coming from above and illuminating the spilled milk. Nice shot. The milk surface looks a tad strange in this kind of glass though

This must be a good shot as I dislike milk with a passion but I like this shot very much. By the way did you know that cow’s milk is excellent for calves?:-)

Shu, i'm beginning to get repetative when it comes to commenting on your images. This is an exceptionally well lit and constructed shot.

Hi aam,

First of all, many, many thanks for pointing me to the Gestalt theory. I forsee a lot reading about it now. About not posting too much, the reasons are varied, I'll post in the main challenge thread.

Hi Shu, I like the picture more now with the whole spilt milk :o)

To Nugar,
Regarding Shu's crop, please do a search on "Gestalt Theory". You might change the way you see crops are done, and you might find it useful for your own pics too. Give it a try.

Re - ps: aam is a guy (who still thinks your granddaughter is wonderfully beautiful).

Nugar-I plead "guilty" to overcropping! I gotta be more careful. Thanks, friend. Shu

aam--Sorry, I misunderstood. Crispness for me is usually simplicity and color and I often look for shadow in the subject. I prefer to shoot things in an abstracted manner but, also, would like to expand my vision to include landscapes (so hard to find a good one here), and do some portrait work. And, no, I don't shoot raw. You never run out of things to learn , do ya. LOL Shu

ps: is aam a female?
aam1234 30-Apr-2005 01:19
Thanks Nugar. I'll check it out and hope it's easy to use.

Btw, you are not as active here as you were before. Hope the reason is not your new 20D (so you left us for the big guys...DSLR challenge).

aam, RAW gives you more room for work, mostly exposure-wise. I shoot RAW exclusively. And then all is in the post-processing and in using the adecuate tools. RawShooter Essentials is a very very nice free processor. Try it, you may like it :o)

Shu, nice image! I like the compo, sharpness and DOF. * nit-picking-wise, I'd like so see the whole spilt milk on the right side :oD (oh and I love your black table :o) )
aam1234 30-Apr-2005 00:43
Thanks Shu for your reply. I wasn't referring to style, it's as you said, each has his/her own. And I don't think the crispness is due to sharpening either, because USM can't add details that weren't there in the first place.

Btw, do you shoot in RAW (I don't).

aam1234--I'm on now chipping away at this image. Each time I look at it I see something else that's needed. (That's what happens when you post too soon before "living with the image," so to speak.) I've up the sharpening in the camera (one notch) and always sharpen again before posting. I've learned to enlarge the image to see if there are any halos and there often are when adjusting color or sharpening. (Grant got after me several times for camera shake and halos, so I've learned the hard way......LOL) I've learned that the camera isn't shaking, but my eyes are ! ! Just kidding, but I do have glaucoma in both eyes, so I suppose it's a matter of time before my vision fails. You're kind to want advice from me but you do know that each and every one of us has his own personal style. One can't help but envy the numerous styles and expertise of others, however. Shu

Shu, we need to talk. We both have the same camera, and maybe the same lens/lenses, but how come you managed to take such a crisp and detailed photo and I can't. Some teaching is in order I think (if you don't mind of course).
