Just some test shots. This one was taken with the kit lens. The 100mm f2.8 macro I also have did not offer an advantage for this shot, with the exact same settings and standing farther back from the subject, looking at a 100% crop side by side no one would tell the difference, and the kit lens seemed to win over the 100mm in this situation. I suppose I should leave it for macros and not for portrait or product shots of this kind, where such an extended DOF is required.

edit: I just happened to notice I set the camera's internal clock one day a head, so I edited the shot date to the actual date the photo was taken.

Thanks Rich :-) I do appreciate everyone's thoughts and comments shared and put every suggestion to thought. PhotoNUT, no worries m8. If I do want to try out that idea(which I'll keep in mind) or something similar to it in the future, there still needs to be a lot more planning put into it so it doesn't look tacky since I'm still not 100% sure on how to make that work. Perhaps it won't be interesting as a print itself but more as a marketing idea. Maybe a juice bar which also doubles as a pool hall? which I don't think even exists but who knows, reminds me of something they could build in LA ;-) I'm all out of apples at the moment, not even one left. So I'm left to work with some Kiwis for now.

Simple still life... But effective. The red skinned apple in the front gives it a nice colour contrast.

An 8 etched onto the apple, no please don't. You could sell prints of this image. If you put an 8 on there it would make the photo look tacky.

Yes. If you try the 8 etched variation, do show me. Also I did noticed the stems aligned in a certain way, just didn't mention it earlier. They certainly add interest. -Cat

Thanks all :-) A plain 8ball would've been a bit out of place, because of it's black color. But if I would work on that idea, perhaps etching an "8" with a circle around it on the apple would be close enough.

About the 20D, what I appreciate most at the moment is the extremely quick startup time and the ability to use a higher ISO setting. I was used to using the spot metering mode with the s410 for black background photo that mode is missing here so missing that a bit. I've been mostly using it for studio tests but have gotten a chance to take it out just once, and really enjoyed it more for outside rather than inside shots. Here's one photo using the 100mm macro, just resized nothing else done with it,

Glad you folks appreciate those subtle things :-) I wanted for the photo to stand a little, so I also arranged that the stems point in that specific direction. All of those apples are Granny Smith's, all from the same bunch(box). Interesting how they all vary from green to yellow and those few have a little orange coloring.

WTG Techo!!, how do you like your new 20D?!? About the picture: I like it! If it were mine, I would try one with the center apple replaced with a 8 ball with #8 visible. :-) -Cat

I really like this. I also like that you selected the nice red areas for the front, and the green ones add a nice randomness to the pattern so it's not boring. Very good job. ~ Lonnit

Thanks PhotoNUT :-) This is my first 20D entry, though you're still my S410 buddy. I've been enjoying the 100mm macro more as tele than a macro lens, it offers that little extra zoom I've always wanted on the s410. So far I've only had these apples to work with and no beautiful flowers or interesting bugs ;-) The 20D will be really busy with food shots for a while.
