I like this the best of your three entries. nice perspective shot and intelligently added human interest to give viewer the size reference. btw, nice job defending the close-up shot like this :)

Lee fancy you conning me like that:-)I didn't have time this morning to check your statement that I had made other close ups on topic. But I've just had a look through both galleries & there's not one ON topic close up from a bloke. The only one that comes close is the pommie red letter box that does show some character of the town in the building behind the letter box. As you well know the girls get away with murder with me, so you can't count their ON TOPIC close ups:-)

In that case Lee we shall deem this on topic as you gave a terrific defense. .......Plus it's too late for the flood gates to open:-)

Rod, I think this very much capture the essence of my city. Atlanta likes to consider itself and international city and with the help of CNN and other companies like Coca-Cola, UPS, and Home Depot. Also the Olympics helped make the city feel it reached the goal.

As I under stood the task, we were assigned a photojournalist to take pictures to capture our town. Taken as a whole, I think all three of my pictures show Atlanta as a growing international city. From the Olympics, world class news organization, and a glimps of our past to our future with Phoenix. Here is part of your post in the orig. thread. "just trying to capture the essence of your town for his or her readers."

If I was a photojournalist I would not be shy to show my boss this picture and hopefully they would have included it.

I do agree with you on one thing, I wish I was further back some to have capture the father talking to his son on the right. I think that one thing most of the pictures in this gallery lack is any human scale and feel. All three of my pictures include people and sense that there is life in the city.

On a persoal note, I also would like to say that this picture represents my first try at any type of street photography. I was very scared to take this picture and only took two of the sign. I was sure that some parent was going to confront me on why I was taking a picture of their child. I think that this has really helped me to grow as a photographer and this I feel is what these challenges are all about.

One last thing, I think this picture is no closer than several other pictures that have received high praise.

Off my soap box.

Tut, tut Lee..... I'm sure the posters that watch CNN news would be very familiar with this sign. What they wouldn't be familiar with is where this sign is situated. Is it attached to a two story building--- I wonder what the street looks like---- etc etc. So this close up is off topic mate. Nice shot of the kids though:-)
