* Snow Removal Crew

Queens NY

When it snows here, nobody in the complex goes out except the maintenance crew.
They start shoveling at 6:00 am and they don't stop until it's done. Pictured here,
in red, one of the team shoveling. The shopping cart is filled with ice melting
products. The super keeps coming back to refill his bucket as he spreads it by hand
on the walks.

As for the fish-look, I've pretty much defished this.

Gayle, I did have the fisheye off when for a bit but somehow it ended up getting back on! LOL! You can be sure it won't be a permanent fixture once that L arrives! Dang UPS man came to the door today to deliver something else and I was freaking that it could be my lens already, but the box looked too big. Maybe it'll be here tomorrow. Snow melting products are stupid salts and or chemicals that melt the ice and snow patches so that it can then just freeze back up into a nice sheet of ice that you can break your neck on until they go out and remelt it again - cycling over and over until the thaw! Not to mention that it eats away at and weakens the concrete that it lies upon. The better thing to do is to spread sand so that it gives some grit for traction, and then when the sun melts it and it refreezes overnight, the sand is frozen in maintaining traction instead of making matters worse. But, most people just use the other stuff and if you haven't figured it out by now, it is my biggest pet peeve of winter. BTW, if I ever got a dog I would name him Peeve so I could tell people he was my pet Peeve! LOL!

Like Rod, I am fascinated by this look at winter in NY. What are "snow melting products"? I have never needed to melt snow but one day I might (when hell freezes over ;-)

Second favorite?!!! Wooooohoooooo! :D I knew you'd like it. (BTW, I'd never refer to my neighborhood as 'the hood', neither would anyone who lives here. LOL!) I felt very reporter-ish taking the shot and writing the caption so I figured it had to be right on target. As for the second L lens, I'll take the 70-200mm! LOL! Love me like a brother? You've even elevated me to man status!!!!! LOL! Hey, I've always fit in better with the guys.

I really thought about the compostion on this; the leading lines of the cart point right to the guy in red who is shoveling the snow right on the intersection of thirds. The shovel also helps lead the eye up to the cart as does the path from the opposite side. I really felt confident on this. I'm thrilled to have made you so happy. :)

Interesting the fisheye does have a certain photojournalistic look that at least not-too-widish lenses don't.

Have you removed that fisheye lens from your camera yet? Or is it now a permanant fixture?

Ah me second favourite girl has struck pay dirt. An art shot that takes me into the hood. See I can speak American:-) Lonnit you have exceeded me expectations, this shot is terrific on its own but with the commentary makes it perfect for this challenge. You deserve two L lenses. Well thought out & shot for a story just like a photojournalist would. Have I told ya that I luv ya………………….. like a brother I mean:-)Great work.
