May 2004 Abstract

Iron Horse Legacy *

Thought about sharing a piece of history from my town..."Iron Horse Legacy," shows old locomotive Number 710 pulling the first train into Lincoln in 1870 on July 4th.
A brick mural of epic dimensions (12x45 feet) was created for the north exterior wall of Lincoln's restored railway station in Historic Haymarket.
The panoramic view of the Old West, uses multiple colors of Nebraska clay.
Jay Tschetter constructed the mural over a 2-month period at the Yankee Hill Brick factory west of Lincoln.
The bricks were kept constantly misted to keep the clay workable. When completed, it was disassembled, lettered and numbered and moved to its present site.

Thank you Rod, Alexeig and Shu.
Alexeig, yes...Nebraska does have blue clay. here is something i found on some geologic info page...
In the western limit of the great Pleistocene glaciers...glacial till overlies the old rock: blue clay, then thick beds of loose gravel and boulders, with occasional buried soils where once forests grew.

Lovely shot & interesting commentary Abs. I'm glad you gave some space to the surroundings which helps us to visualise the mural in its context. Plus it made for a great shot. Well done mate:-)
