Rolling Stop *

St. Louis, Missouri (USA)

To a St. Louisan, a “Stop” sign means “Yield”. We slow down as we approach it, look both ways, and then proceed to roll right through. As the story goes, the last person to actually come to a full stop at a stop sign was an unsuspecting out-of-towner, who was then promptly rear-ended – by a cop.

Just giving you a hard time Garrett. Thanks for sticking up for my Arch pic!

Well, Maggie, you've got me there. The California stop is only an option when there is no cross traffic. --Garrett

:-)hehe I didn't pick up on the cars Maggie, I was too busy being the serious challenge host:-) That makes the shot even better.

California stop, Garett? Really. Let's see your shot of two cars in the intersection at the same time! hehehe

This is what we're after Maggie, excellent. If you had just shot a close up of the stop sign it would have made this shot off topic (if you were a bloke):-) But by showing us some details of St Louis along with some excellent commentary makes this a top entry. Really good stuff, well done:-)

I agree with you Garrett you're not :-) Commentary alone doesn't make a shot on topic, the shot in most cases needs almost to stand alone. With the commentary & picy combined the power & meaning make it worth submitting to us readers. Maggie's Arch said nothing about St Lois without the commentary, I have no idea where or how it's situated in St Lois. But why are we talking about that here:-)hehe

Cute story, but the rolling stop is not unique to St. Louis. In fact, it is known here as a "California stop." On the other hand, I thought that your photo of the Gateway Arch was on topic, so I guess I'm not a good judge of what is on topic. --Garrett
