Our Lady of Sorrows Monastery, which houses a community of contemplative nuns, has long been a local landmark. For many years, local children would ride their sleds and toboggans down the hill, sometimes joined by the younger nuns. Unfortunately, their insurance company had them close the hill to the public because of fears of litigation. A busy highway/commercial strip runs on this side of the field, and the Connecticut River is yet farther behind. The field is all that remains of the miles of farms and market gardens that once lined the river.
