Historic Cemetery *

West Springfield, Massachusetts

This is one of several old historic cemeteries in town which date back to the time of the American Revolution in the 1770's, when West Springfield, Massachusetts, was considered part of the Western Frontier. The carving is typical of New England headstones of that time. (For anyone who might be wondering, New England is in the northeast corner of the U.S. and includes the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.) This particular cemetery is about a mile from my house and, although it's not very large, people are still being buried there.

That's the way they are, alexeig...the result of frost heaves from the ground freezing and thawing. There may be a bit of wide-angle distortion on the front one.

Beautiful shot. The plates, are they naturally inclined? Or is it wide angle distortion?

Well, I was waiting with bated breath to see whether this shot would be "pended." Am I on your wave-length? (What a scary thought!)
