This is one of several old historic cemeteries in town which date back to the time of the American Revolution in the 1770's, when West Springfield, Massachusetts, was considered part of the Western Frontier. The carving is typical of New England headstones of that time. (For anyone who might be wondering, New England is in the northeast corner of the U.S. and includes the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.) This particular cemetery is about a mile from my house and, although it's not very large, people are still being buried there.
