Paul--I think I'm learning!! I wanted to comment about the cropping, but was afraid to do so. That's why when you cropped, I saw the change immediately. I think the image is perfect now. Shu

Very nice! The white vase, background and soft color makes it very appealing. Did you crop a bit off the bottom? Just curious. Shu

Hi Rod and Markjay, Thanks for your comments and I enjoyed your "deconstruction" of the photograph. The high angle was dictated by the location: it's the counter space in a bathroom (loo, wc). I like the idea of a lower camera angle, but the wall mirror (and its reflection) would get in the way. I tried de-saturating the flower, didn't care for the effect, and decided to keep it near/at full color. This goes somewhat against expectations for "minimalism" and can be "stark," but I like the impact. Thanks again for commenting. Paul

Gday Mark, No doubt the flower is the focal point, it's just that I liked the tonality of the vase against the white background. The flower seems to lack tonality, which possibly is Paul’s intent for this minimalist challenge. My mistake could be viewing it as a photograph & not as a minimalist photograph.. So on reflection viewing it as a minimalist photo, Great shot Paul:-)

Rod, I think (correct me if I'm wrong, Paul) that Paul IS trying to direct attention to the flowers more so than the vase. If you are thinking that the flowers should be more light / pastel in color to match up with the high contrast of the vase, that's just another way view of how to work with this subject matter. That would in fact be another pleasing way to accomplish a minimalist image. Remember, sometimes the artists intention / goal is not always obvious to the viewer :-) Paul, I have no way of knowing what your work area is / was for this shot. If at all possible, I myself would have (just sharing another way of thinking) taken the "low road" moving my camera down to the level of the subject and shooting straight towards it against the background. I like the effect of the vase on the white background but the leaves & flower somehow look sort of harsh.
