LOL! With all the sarcasm I felt obligated to jump on the bandwagon. ;) ~ Lonnit

Lonnit, sorry that my lack of title specificity ruined your enjoyment ;-)

Seemed like a pretty nice shot to me, but then I read all the comments and realized that I hadn't read the title, so now the whole dang thing's just gone to hell in a handbasket for me. ;) ~ Lonnit

Jim, thanks for your comments!

Hi Julian, since all bamboo is grass, wouldn't "bamboo grass" seem a little redundant LOL? Despite the inaccuracy, I think I'll keep the title "Bamboo."

Paul,
Simply a very nice image. The composition is great, as are the technical aspects. Nice choice of DOF.

What's wrong with the title 'Bamboo grass?'
Paul Sumi09-Aug-2004 19:38
Hi Gayle. See, I can take pictures in color as well as B&W ;-) Thanks for taking a look and for your comments.

BTW, Don: ROFL ;-)

I like this photo, and it looks just like bamboo to me so I like the title too. I really like the "3 dimensional" look you've achieved with selective depth of field. Love the colours too.

Hi Julian and Don, I sit corrected (who works at their PC standing up ;-) ?). Thank you for the correct identification of the flora pictured in the photograph. Would either of you gentlemen know the Nihongo or Mandarin for bamboo grass so I can change the title? BTW, Stipa verticillata seems to be the latin for "slender bamboo grass:"http://farrer.riv.csu.edu.au/ASGAP/APOL9/mar98-14.html

Thank you both for taking a look and for your comments!

Yes, Paul, it's mostunfortunate that your identification of the plant was so vague that we are unable to compliment you on the cool pale greens, the atmospheric background diffusion, the perfect placement of the individual stalks, and the striking singularity of the single stalk in focus. If your goal was to create a title as spare and elegant as your photo, well, you can see where that's got you. In the future, remember that a little Latin goes a long way to helping us help you. Don.

This looks like bamboo grass to me, Paul. Bamboo is a lot bigger, as thick as six inches in diameter, and two floors high.
