Thanks for the comments. I didn't use a flash. It was taken just after dusk, with a little bit of sunlight left, and the moonlight. Luckily our pelicans tend to sit very still!

I was thinking just the same thing. Or did you use second curtain flash?

Beautiful shot, Neil. I'm amazed that those two pelicans didn't move for 2 seconds. When I was trying to take photos at a wildlife sanctuary last week, "my" birds never stayed still for me and I had trouble freezing action even in broad daylight.
