Migration

Marietta, GA

A flight of Canada Geese heading south for the winter.
The hour is late, the sun has just set, they are looking for a place to spend the night. It's just over this band of trees.
How many miles have they flown today?
With their minds numbed by fatigue they are always honking. I know what they're saying. It's something like this:
Canada Goose Bart, "Are we there yet?"
Canada Goose Homer, "No!"
Canada Goose Bart, "Are we there yet?"
Canada Goose Homer, "Wait a minute .......... No!"

PS grain added to emphasize the physical magnitude of their journey.

Canon PowerShot G2
1/20s f/2.2 at 10.7mm full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

This was originally entered in Challenge 39 - Flight and rather than upload it again I simply copied it. That moves all the comments as well as saves space. - Pops

Comments from Sep. 2003?

Alright, you gave me the guts to post a photo I didn't dare posting here (similar to this one).

Simple, evocative, beautiful and much better without the coloured grain.

Actually shot it at iso 400 which is as fast as my humble G2 will go. But then I pushed it in the developing tank to 3200! LOL

Yes, it's made a good difference. In fact it now looks like it was shot at a film speed of errr, iso3200

I took the original picture and converted it to B&W and then added the grain. It was the "add grain" step that put the colors back into it. And I agree, it looks better without the color. So I converted it again to B&W and updated it. Pops

My first impression was wow nice picture, but then the coloured grain was distracting. I would desaturate it, then it'll just be 'wow nice picture' again :) To me anyway - others may disagree. I thought this when I first saw it, but i'm concious of critiqueing other's work too much before being invited too, but when Iso put pen to paper I thought i'd second it.

Very arty. I actually like. Might be better in forced mono as you can see the different colours within the grain. Just a mention.....
