thanks and yes, that's how I did the conversion. Maybe next time, when I'm dealing with sky, I won't touch the blue slider. But I really don't think that was the problem because I didn't see it until I resized and did some sharpening and contrast. At least I think that was when it happened. Anyway thanks. To fix it I added a very dark red filter and then lightened from there. It's not perfect, but less noticeable anyway. Penny Sreet

That's better Penny, the blotches are a lot less noticeable now. Did you use the B&W converter in CS4? I've had this happen to the odd picy of mine when I use the eye dropper over the sky & drag to the left to darken I could see the blotches. I don't know if this from the B&W converter using different colour channels when we use the eye dropper. When we just burn in with the burn in tool it must darken all the colour channel but I don't really understand all this as it's rocket science to me. Overall the picy is looking really good now.

thanks Rod. I think this is better now, although not as dark. I believe that the blotchies came from sharpening but I'm not sure. I redid this picture several times this week trying to get it right the first time but. Penny Street

Great subject for a B&W with the well lit church & darker tones all around. I really like the graduation in the sky which look really good in picys. I can see some blotches in the darker part of the sky which may have come from darkening but the picy looks really good.

thanks John and Mary Anne - and no, I did not have my polarized filter with me but probably should have used it. Sometime I use a filter in photoshop but not with this one. Penny Street

The church really stands out well against the dark sky, Penny. Did you use a filter?

The keystone effect really works to your advantage here. It gives it a steeple effect that is quite appropriate for a church. I like that you didn't try to correct it out.

I like the people in NYC - I miss being able to wander around and take pictures of people. But I guess churches are okay for now. Thanks.

Beautiful black & white light and well processed for maximum tonal range without burnout. See how local subjects can be good ones even if you can't carry the camera around the busy NYC streets. -tv
