Jano, Techo, Sue Anne, Doug - great thanks for your comments. Sue Anne - you would not recognize the city again. Before I moved to Singapore, I have been visiting it for business for week or two every year. And every time I saw changes. Incredibly fast developing city. Doug - you are right, far right you can see a small copy of Merlion

Great looking lion K9. Is that it's twin I see back there on our far right? -Doug

Beautiful and yes I was here in '74 when there wasn't all those high risers like Singapore is today.

Very cool! I, for one, have never seen this before and the history lesson is very educational. Looks like a beautiful city! jano

In the 13th-century Malay Annals, Sang Nila Utama, a prince from Palembang was shipwrecked and washed ashore to an island. There he saw a creature which he believed was a lion. So he named the island "Singa Pura" which means "Lion City" in Malay, from which the name Singapore was derived.
The Merlion is a beautiful hybrid of a lion and a fish. Strong and lithe, its lion head alludes to the fabled beast that once roamed the ancient island state, while its fish body symbolizes Singapore's origin as a prosperous seaport.
