Thanks for taking the time to work on this Mikey! I'll see if I can do this in PS Elements. :-) CJ

Sorry it took me so long to find this shot, CJ. Nice going, tho. Its a bit blown out but cool. The trick to conversion from the OOcam image to something "viewable" is in the channel mixer. Its a total switch in the blue and red channels. Here's what I came up with:

It gives the IR image more depth and ... quality(?). Anyway, ... channel mixer ":^) in the red and blue, swap 100% for 0% & vice-versa on both. Cheers, -mikey

My eye keeps going back to this, CJ! I have never been a fan of infrared photography, but this is different, probably due to its gentle blend of light and shadow. Also, I like the red tone. It takes the edge off the B&W. Your image seems to tell a story with a tree stump sitting among the tall. shu

Thanks for the comments. I know Mikey has a converted camera but I wanted to try an IR image using the Hoya R72 filter to see what kind of results I'd get. A tripod is a necessity but it's been too windy lately and even a tripod wouldn't help much with a 10-15 sec shot. I really do want to try more of this but it will have to wait until the weather cooperates. CJ

As a thumb it does look like a snow day :-) I don't know much about IR shots myself, but I think I have seen some discussions about some cameras being good for it and some not. I thought I saw it mentioned some dSLRs were okay for it (possibly with a special setting?) but don't know if the 40D is one of them.
I think Kiki might be right that Mikey has done some IR shots- where's Mikey?

By the thumbnail I thought someone should have put this in exihibtion. Looks like a snow day. Interesting experiment. -Doug

I didn't think this was possible with a normal digital camera but it sort of works almost converting a summer scene into a snowy landscape. -tv

I don't know the first thing about this, cept that customized WB is used.. or so I thought. Looked around: Luminous Landscape has a page about it. Seems the first thing you need is a customized camera. Normal DSLR has a filter inside the camera that more or less completely blocks the IR spectrum. Isn't Michael Shealy into this?

I like the red. No idea what to do with pp but to keep experimenting.
This is all very interesting though - maybe try different color subjects and see what happens. Penny Street

Kiki, I have no idea. If you know a good web site tutorial on how to use the filter properly and edit the picys, I'd appreciate it! :-) CJ
ctfchallenge21-Jun-2009 23:08
Hmm.. aren't you supposed to shoot with a customized white balance with those things?

Thanks Rod. I have the Hoya R72 Infrared filter and have taken very few picys with it. I'd like to find some good subjects and experiment a bit more though. I thought this would come out differently but my PP might be way off too. Here's the original - no pp. CJ

Gawd it's strange to see one of your picys in IR a. Did you buy a filter or was this done in PP? I imagine with the long exposure time it must have been done in camera. It seems to work reasonably good a. Good girl for giving it a go.
