I find the noise is less of a problem if sharpening can be avoided. For these challenges, I usually resize to small before considering if sharpening will enhance or degrade the result. -tv

Thanks Rod, Tv and Doug.
Kind of went overboard with PP. Was going for a certain look/feel... this is the closest to what I wanted.

Tv, I almost always shoot RAW. I tend to be a bit conservative when it comes to the ISO... hangover from the Canon 5D days. should have bumped the iso to 3200. One thing about the high iso performance on the D700, if you under-expose and try to correct it in post-processing, the noise shows up.

The b/w combined with the grain works wonders for this shot. Well done. -Doug

Geez I would have said this was put through an effects filter or RK processed it this way. If this came out of the camera you would send it back real quick a. For me this shot works the best of the three as wotever has been done it seems to convey for me the emotion in dancing.

RK, I hope you are processing from RAW because the D700 delivers a significantly inferior jpg. Believe me, I tried jpgs and found out that only the RAW provides the full advantages of the camera meaning you can adjust exposure 3-4 f-stops and dynamic range is greatly expanded.
I like this result but have to wonder if it could have been better using all the capability of the camera. My routine is to first, shoot at 3200 indoors and then process the RAW files. I hate the routine but it has to be done. -tv

The processing here works wonders for this picy in B&W. This is a great example of processing to suit the picy & not processing for a wow factor in every picy. Great work RK.
