Hi, Thank you all for your comments. Yes the black background worked suprisingly well. Techo gave me some real good tips there. Here's the website of the products for those interested:

Great job with the black background version :) The blacks look smooth and deep with very nice lighting on the object.
Wouldn't change a thing.

Techo, thank you for all your tips! I only had 10-15min to play around but your tips made those 15 min count! Unfortunately I only have one flash so making it work on white was impossible. I could see though that the shadow was decreased by bringing the item more forward. I also tried reducing the aperture and increasing the ISO so that it used less flash. That worked as well but then got funny coloured (but less intense) shadows. I think that's because I started mixing ambient light and flash which have different wavelengths. A correct WB would be impossible in that case. One of your tips worked really well though... Black background is something I didn't think of and it worked really nice bringing out the colours nicely! I needed to burn the final image a bit but imho it looks good.

Tell me what you think (Notice to Penny - Spoiler Image)

Techo, I love hearing your ideas and experiences - lots to think about!
Christakis, we're waiting to hear your description - out with it! (the only thing I can think of... is it a baby bunny?)

I do not know what this cute object is, can we have a hint? ;)

Btw, a black background is much easier to get than white. The trick is to actually not get any light on the background, or you can shoot in a completely darkened room , much easier with continuous lights, and use any kind of surface you want. So if you'd like to try that, I think the black background color will contrast this object nicely.

Nice attempts with your product shots. If shooting with one light and the background this close, it's going to be hard to not get the shadow. Unless you shoot from the top and bounce the light around the sides with a two pieces of paper on the sides but then you might not get the lighting effect you're looking for. If you had two lights with equal power it'd be easier to get rid of the shadow. If you don't have one very big piece of white paper, perhaps using two or more pieces of white material might be the trick. Place the white paper propped up plenty far back as you can/need, but then trick is to also light that background piece to get white background. Hope this offers any tips you can use.

Cute and adorable indeed! Can you guess what it is though?
I agree with you about the shadow Lydia but it just didn't want to go away. I tried bouncing, diffusing, going further back, and... nothing worked. I will try taking advantage of another source of light though...

He's ADORABLE! But, I would have liked to have seen him without his shadow.

Yeah. I'm odd. ~Lydia
