Thanks Carole:-) This effect is an old trick I learned many years ago, it's called an accident:-)

Great textures and color contrasts Rod. This creates quite an optical illusion as it sometimes looks convex to me, and other times looks concave! :-) CJ

You know, now I'm seeing 3D. This gets better, maybe mine will too.

Yes Rod. They do have them on the roads here. I didn't know they were called "Cats Eye" and they are placed a bit differently. I know them as "reflectors".
Rod 07-Jan-2009 06:35
Thanks Doug:-) About 3/4". The old ones from about 30 years ago were made of rubber with a bit of a box underneath so when you drove over them they would go down into the box which had brushes on the sides so the reflectors would get a clean. They also had two round reflectors in which is how they got the name of cats eyes. These modern ones are made of hard plastic & just sit on top of the road which is noisy to drive over them. If you turn the picy upside down you will see these are made in Ohio so I imagine they must be used in some parts of the US.

Rich with texture. So how far up from the road do these things extend? -Doug

Thanks Tommy & Penny:-)

It is abstract and geometric. I like these kinds of subjects. But I think something is bothering me. I'm not sure, but I think it's the fact that the two things are separated and seem to have no relationship. Unless the yellow is the sunshine. Okay, so maybe I do like it. Penny Street

Outstanding combination of textures, color vs non-color and the cat's eye contrast against the black goo it's sitting in. Stongly reminds me of 1950's abstract expressionist painting. -tv

Thanks YB, Troy & Christakis:-) This was taken with the 17-55, whatever you do try not to get old:-) These things reflect the light from your headlights Troy, they're normally placed down the centre of the rd.

A Cat's Eye is what the little reflecting things in the street are called. I like your composition Rod. I must admit I would never think of taking a picture like this and I applaud you for that. PS I think there's a mistake in your technical notes, 55mm on an 70-200mm lens? Sounds odd. ~Christakis

What is the Rod? I don't understand the title.

I never thought you would join those who post photos of their pet cats and dogs. :(
Nice abstract.
