I like the candle's light on his face. Maybe try what tv said, keeping the candles and losing the bottom of the cake.

Carole the only problem is the foreground lighting of the cake. A judicious crop off the bottom will produce a better balance of light and emphasize the face without losing the candle colors. -tv

Thanks Rod and Tom. I tried to do this in natural light without the flash but I think a faster lens would have worked better and I think my WB might have been set on Auto and I should have set it for fluorescent. :-( CJ

I think I would like to see a softer warmer glow on her face maybe it's the high Iso that's adding a bit of hardness there. Happy burfday to Clare anyhow:-)

Guess I spoke too soon. Nice combination of lighting. I like the glow & (lack-of) focus on the face.
