Thanks for all the comments.
Re tight crop - I took a macro close up to try to achieve this. It is posted in the exhibition gallery. It has its pluses and minuses.
Re noise reduction - this photo was taken at iso 100 with resultant low noise. The speckles you see in this jpeg are actually structure in the petals. They are clearer in an original tiff. See my close up in exhibition.
Re brighter - this is probably it. I played a lot with PS Elements. The petals are not super colorful.

Nicely done. My first thoughts were the same as angioman. A tight crop could be very dramatic and would make that purple pop. ~dtallakson

Nicely done. I wonder what this shot would look like with a tight crop around the central pink, capturing a portion of the surrounding yellow - might make the colors really pop (if you have enough pixels)! - angioman

Long time no see.

Yes, this is nice.

Don't assume we're all as skilled though... unlike in MN, they grow like weeds in our garden in the tropics. ;-)

Jim, your orchid is beautiful already and the comp and colors are really nice, but it might benefit from a little additional PP to brighten it up and maybe a little noise reduction. I love orchids and envy those who have the talent to grow them - good one! :-) CJ

I like your composition here better but agree with Mary Anne that the color could be more dramatic. Penny Street

I also prefer this one, Jim. Since you have this plant at home, I'd try some shots with side lighting for a more dramatic look. It's a beautiful flower, and I'm sure you're very pleased with it.

Yes I prefer this one too, this is big colour. Well taken Jim.

I prefer this one for the purple angel like figure. -COAmature

Two excellent orchids Jim with beautiful rich color . It's a tough call, but I think I prefer this one for its slightly better detail. I see this is grown by you as well- that must take some special gardening skills. Well done.
