Diode

This little bugger is only 1/8" long, so to get this magnification (this isn't a crop) I stacked my 50/1.4 in front of the 100/2.8 macro. I'm not sure of the exact effective magnification is, but we can guess; the sensor is 22.2mm wide, 1/8" is 3.175mm, and the diode takes up about 1/2 the sensor. So, roughly 11.1/3.175, or 3.5ish. I think. Taken in a dark room with no light in front, and a 550EX behind and just enough below to be out of frame and not flare the lens stack.

Ahh, a 1N4148 :) They are lovely to look at and very much better than a 1N914 IMO. I keep a stash of them on hand at all times. Wonderful idea and very well done. I like the harsh lighting you got with the flash. Jim H.

Ditto Traveller's comments below. These challenges are equally creative & educational for me, & flash lighting is something very new to me. (as well as macro, slr, extentions tubes, bags & cases, UV filters, software, wide, fast.......)

Dear Steve, very nice and thanks for the technical explanation...not so much the macro numbers but on the 580ex lighting...very helpful to me personally, Best Wishes, Traveller
