It is indeed made of metal Jim. It is a hollow steel sphere which is set on fire by filling it with wood and other fuel. Over time, the steel has gone rusty and is a very nice orange colour. I used a lot of contrast and other adjustments to give it this dark appearance. Thanks for commenting. Regards -Najinsky

Time out from your worldly travels to shoot something closer to home? I thought this was metal but your description below says they are set on fire? Fascinating image in any case. Jim H2

I understand it to be a 'Fireball' sculpture by Aragorn Dick-Read -
http://www.aragornsstudio.com/CopperSculpture.htm

He sets fire to them during a full moon festival near his studio in Trellis Bay (BVI) -http://moon.com/planner/virgin_islands/mustsee/to_trellis_bay.html

Earlier this year they joined a local exhibition here in Guernsey -http://www.bbc.co.uk/guernsey/content/articles/2007/05/15/sculpture_festival_2007_feature.shtml

My image is taken from inside to show the carvings and then processed to give the effect of the outside being saturated in the moonlight (hence the title). -Regards Naj
