6th Place (tie)
"Ode to an Ode"
by Lonnit Rysher

Barbie's room

Jeannie, you completely inspired/challenged me to
do this! LOL! It took about 5 hours to set up, shoot
and edit. I took 190 frames to get it this close! It
would have been so much easier, had it not been a
self portrait, where I could have looked through the
viewfinder to get the position right. I also had issues
with being reflected in the mirror, so I had to lean all
the way back to keep out of view. Don't let anyone ever
tell you modeling is easy work! I had a headache and I
was working up a sweat. This is dedicated to you, in
appreciation of your ode to me. Thanks again! ~ Lonnit

Take a bow, Lonnit. This is simply outstanding and so amazing that you tackled an "ode to an ode". Most inspiring. Your hard work and many hours paid off in terms of creating something really special. Congratulations! Regards jnconradie

Thanks, Jeannie. It was a bitch of a thing to duplicate! LOL! It looked so simple. Five hours later I had the image. ~ Lonnit

How fun, Lonnit!!! I can't believe you put yourself through all of those poses & shots just to get this, but it was well worth the effort!! -- Jeannie

Thank you so much, Michael. As for size, no matter how much you nag, I won't be going much bigger. As it is, I've had my images stolen for web use; I don't want them stolen for print as well, if they haven't been already. There's no way of tracking that. Selling pix pays for my equipment. :) ~ Lonnit

It's a great piece, Lonnit. Wonderful that you would take on creating this homage to an homage. I don't think it could be more grand! -Michael

P.S. It still irritates me that you post such small images. 500 pixels on the longest side is simply too small to really enjoy the image with any sense of satisfaction. I know I've bitched at you about it before and I plan to keep doing it. I mean that in the most respectful way :-)

No, not at all. Apparently she was spot on! LOL! ~ Lonnit

Hello Barbie!
I guess Jeannie wasn't wrong at all about the Ode...

Thanks, Eleana. Had to turn it pink! LOL! It's normally all red, so Jeannie is to blame for the pink. ;) I thought it looked better once I made the change anyway. For the other image though, I think the red works much better, since it's an edgier piece.

Vikas - I guess you must have put the idea in my head telepathically b/c you thought of it before I. Thanks!

Melb - LOL! Yes, I had a hard time matching the skin tones. I did it, but it looked so hideous I couldn't put my name on it! LOL! Yes, 190 frames, leaning flat back on top of that nightstand with no back support, keeping that left leg lifted! I could only get 12 frames per burst, then I'd get up and go over to the camera and check the shots, readjust the set, replan my position for corrections, then jump back into the scene, hit the remote, drop it, then shift into position. I guess I had to do that repeatedly, sixteen times! Yeesh, no wonder I was wiped! Live preview wouldn't help unless it could be turned all the way to the front of the camera, and be big enough to see from several feet away. OH STUPID ME!! Thank you. You just rang the bell - I should have, and I will next time, set up hubby's laptop, tethered and facing me! That's definitely the way to go for now on with these self portrait shoots. Still, though, focusing will always be the most difficult issue. Here, I put the shoes on the bench (yeah, right, the "bench" is a slab of foam from the new air conditioner box, set atop my laundry basket, then covered with a bed sheet) and focused, manually, on them, then attempted to get my feet there.

I also couldn't match the DOF even shooting at 2.8. I had to blur in CS2.

Great Lonnit; knew if was a Lonnit pic the moment I saw the thumbnail and had been waiting for you to do something like this. :-)

Cheers, Vikas.

"Ode dear" .... there is another one... lol! No offense to Jeannie but these have better 'skin tones' for some obscure reason (ROFL)

When this challenge is over I will have some very fetching red shoes Lonnit... shall I send them?

190 frames wow?... a good way to get one's exercise! I see your point about the mirrors. That is where the new 1D' Mk III's live preview would be advantageous.

Nice post ~ Regards Melbob

LOL! Thanks, Trav. Glad you're enjoying it. Had to turn all the reds to pink! The orig looks a bit pinker. Must have shifted a bit in conversion. ~ Lonnit
