Awesome shot! :)

All three are wonderful but this is my fave . The aqua color of the water and composition wins me over. And the glow/hdr effect isn't overly done here. Looks just perfect.

Personally, Nico, I'd crop the top third of the image, to right above the clouds...but that's just me. Best Wishes, Traveller

I'm embarrassed to say this, but the first time I looked at this picture, I thought it was a pair of shoes on the prow of a boat. Now that I see what it really is, I like what I saw originally better. It has a totally different meaning. But maybe if I'd seen this version first, I'd like it better. -- Victor

Ahhhhhh, now that's what I'm talking about! Now, as does Michaels, my eyes go to the shoes, travel the image, then return to the shoes, as should be. Kudos! ~ Lonnit

Nico, I probably would not have guessed this as you...but then I didn't try to guess 'cause I'm so lame at the guessing game. This composition remains my favorite of the three variations. While I greatly respect Lonnit's opinion, she and I sometimes don't have the same eye movement throughout an image which makes us clash from time to time. Now is one of those times. My eye is not drawn to the horizon due to the composition. Rather, for me, the triangle of the deck serves to encapsulate the primary subject and my eye enjoys the sea and horizon simply as background, albeit lovely background. I bring this up to say that different people see the same image in different ways. I dont' think there's any right or wrong here, just different perceptions. -Michael

Did you boost sat all over the water? I was hoping for it just in that band near the top. The thing is that the "white" of the sky is more contrasty and whiter. I'd pull back on the sat a bit in the yellow band, then paint blue into the whiteness a bit so it's not blown. For the yellow, half way between now and before would be fine, along with the suggested bluing. I only wanted to be 200% right. 400% right was too much sat! LOL! ;) ~ Lonnit

Thanks for all the nice comments and suggestions. I really value this very highly.

Lonnit, you are 400% correct. I think I could summarise this one by saying, "nice idea, wrong sunset..." Even as was taken the photo, I knew there was just not enough interest in the sunset itself to make it really work out. But I only had this one opportunity... and no chances for a re-shoot, unfortunately.

I posted a version with boosted saturation (hopefully not completely overdone). It might help a fraction, but I think it really needed a pasing yacht, or island on the horizon, or more dramatic cloud formation, ... or something.

Traveller, learning from your comment, I made his version smaller.

Thanks again! Regards jnconradie

Thanks, Trav. BTW, I just noticed that if it's viewed in medium, it looks way better than in original. The saturation is denser in the smaller version. ~ LOnnit

Lovely criticism, Lonnit...thoughtful and with a point. I'm not sure it is correct...but it is smart and that is always good. Best Wishes, Traveller

Lovely. I would be tempted to boost saturation around the horizon area because we are drawn to it, due to the composition, but when we get there, there is less payoff in interest. If you're going to send us there, (by pointing the shoes in that direction, and forming an arrow with the deck) give us something to really appreciate once we get there. The scene itself can do it, but it needs some more intensity to support this. A different composition would send the eye to the shoes, and if that were the case, the background would be fine like this. In this case, though, you are making the faded background the main subject and the shoes the secondary. Lovely image!!! ~ Lonnit

I LOVE the colors!!! This is so peaceful. I would love to be there now, sipping on one of those fruity concoctions. Need any help covering the scene, mysterious photographer?? :) -- Jeannie
