I've uploaded a new version taking some of your comments into account. Thanks all!

Image has been replaced. Explorer reports it to be 146 KB. Firefox reports it to be 145.82 KB (149321 bytes).

And for the record, the last version was showing in Windows Explorer as 150KB. It wasn't until you looked at properties and it said: 150 KB (154,417 bytes). Please stop acting like I'm intentionally breaking the rules!

Amy, I must say: This other version, for me, fall into the WOW category. Well balanced, there's no white on the top left to pull your eye from the center pieces. The partial desaturation on the grass and tombstones highlights the young lady, plus she has now and aura. I *really* like the version in the comments.

This is a friendly reminder: The image is still oversize (154417 bytes)

Amy, in Spanish "bien" = good as in greater good. "bein" has no meaning. To say that something is good you might use "bueno" if the person or thing is masculine in gender and "buena" if female (things have gender in Spanish). If you were to translate "good subject", you would say "buen tema" ("buen" and not "bueno").

This comment was brought to you by the letter B and the number 2 ;o)

Olaf - I did not get your e-mail.

Kiki - Bein Tema in spanish might translate to "good subject"

;)

Morbid digression of the day: Did you know that the name on the thombstone, "Beintema" means "Bone theme" in norwegian.

Amy, I sent you an email to your PBase-account.

Amy, you have a great concept here, communicating a universally understood message. With a little processing, you can strengthen the 'story' of the photograph and make it a very strong photograph - visually as well as conceptually. My second thought when I saw this (first thought being: 'great concept') was: 'I would like to see it darker - for added drama'; and after reading the other comments, I have to agree about cropping, but I would crop both top and left, cutting halfway into the leftmost gravestone. This would strengthen the relationship between the girl and the large, new gravestone. Another thought I had was that it would make a great dark toned black and white photo. This being a color challenge, you could experiment with a partial black and white, leaving the girl in color. I am not usually a fan of that type of selective color, but I think it would work well here.

Have to disagree...
Cropping out the sky makes the photo an odd shape (unless it's a pano, I like the aspect ratios to stay "normal"). It also placed the line of the grass to leaves in an odd spot (to my eye).
If I crop it out leaving the aspect ratio intact she's either too close to the edge or you lose some of the stone on the far left - neither of which I wanted.

I did try a version with the sky filled in (using cloning) and didn't like that either... the light from the sky seems to work, IMO, because it's opposite of the main subject and makes the natural light seem -- well, natural, LOL.

I agree with Gayle on the cropping. Interesting contrast between the subdued grass and background colors and the vivid clothes.

I really like the feel and mood of this. One suggestion though, it would be hugely improved by cropping out the bright sky.
