Dancers

Austin, TX

I'm fairly certain I would not have captured this image were it no for the challenge. Part of my purpose in this shot is to show that the bokeh need not be highlights. Also, the subject in the bokeh need not be in the background.

I agree with Mary Anne, although I did notice that I had less trouble seeing the dancer's hands in the thumbnail than in the full sized image. This is, however, a fabulous portrait of the sax player! ~Sharon

By the way, even though this is black and white, you might be interested to know that the background really was black. And the musician's clothes are also black. -- Victor

Mary Anne, I agree with you. It's a mediocre picture but was the best I could do under the circumstances (dancers wandering out of frame -- musicians getting out of character -- lighting being about 3 stops dimmer than I wanted. I might be able to improve it with a little additional post processing, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort at this point. -- Victor

Victor, while I like the photo, I find the silhouetted bokeh subjects in the foreground to be too subtle. There's so much other black in the photo that it took me awhile to figure out what your title means.

Hi Victor, I concur fully and it is good to see another example in this gallery of how that can be achieved. Well done! Regards ~jnconradie
