Heh ... love the concept, particularly the instruction sheet background. Great idea.

What a great idea Sharon and beautifully executed! Besides the "sculpture", I particularly like your choice of BG. CJ

Thanks, Sharon, for explaining about your studio, which can also be used for other, lesser important purposes on occasion. You have definitely given me a new idea: I have never contemplated making use of our bathr.... oops... I mean studio for picture setups. :-)

Sharon, the lighting is due to your foresight to make use of the excellent north-light photo studio, errr...upstairs bath :-) Some folks would only use that room for its intended purpose and what a waste that would be! -Michael

PS. I have an upstairs bath...err, I mean north-light photo studio. It's a most excellent room for glorious light.

Thanks, FarsideMichael, pfehlauer and Michael Puff! The lighting is due to my excellent north-light photo studio, the upstairs bath, don't tell anyone! ~Sharon

Neat idea, Sharon, and the execution is really fine. Fun to read your thoughts about the background. While I love the 100mm macro, I find its DOF totally different than any of my other lenses and somewhat cranky to get exactly what I want at times. Your decisions for this image are spot on, IMHO. The overall lighting of the tinker toy sculpture is lovely, particularly flattering the light wood tone and bringing out the details nicely. -Michael

Thanks, Nico! I wasn't put off by your comment and I appreciate you making it. I did think about the background before choosing this one. I really did want the instruction sheet to show, if softly, the technical structures that are possible and the rather erratic one that I ended up with and that I suspect most childlike minds would create. I tried a sharper version of the sheet but found that this out of focus one let the toy pop out of the shot best. I tried the dark wood floor it was sitting on and thought about a solid red background but I found the plain background made for a less interesting shot. Thanks for taking the time to explore this with me! ~Sharon

Hi Elips, I have been back to this a couple of times... unbeatable creativity! And I hope my eaelier question about the background did not come through negatively: the background is just perfect. I was merely wondering if there were other alternatives as well. Splending photograph. Regards ~jnconradie

great shot! I especially like how the somehow daVinci-esque background adds to the already clever idea - b.c.

Another winner??? Great imagination you have, Sharon! The knob at the top is touchable. Truly an admirable image! shu

Thanks, Mary Ann, Cheryl and Nico! I had intended on doing a more "structural" arrangement but found I didn't have enough pieces so I abandoned uniform and went with free-form! I had a great time playing with them! ~Sharon

Really nice, Sharon, and the faded old instruction sheet is perfect for the background.

Way too cool... and takes me far down memory lane. You clearly also went to a lot of trouble to select a background to complement the structure. (Although I did wonder whether a background with a different colour would not also have created an interesting contrast and helped the structure to stand out more?) Well done! ~jnconradie
