Olaf, you've seen me in the challenges enough to know that I am certainly one to graciously accept critique and contructive critisism. And I thank you both for your comments. Composition can be a VERY personal thing. In this case, I personally like the composition in this one... not completely centered and a little extra cushion on the right side. Yes, this could easily have been a landscape with a composition heavily weighted on one side.... that would work well. However, I am working REALLY hard to push myself to do more vertical compositions because as I look through my portfolio of images, I have been doing WAYYYY too much horizontal, which is not always as marketable as a vertical image :-) For me, this image is just "ok". It's not a favorite of mine and it's certainly not the top of my "game". There is however an innocense to the image that appeals to me and there are other characteristics of the image that I find mildly appealing. Thanks again folks, I really enjoy reading your comments and critiques... keep 'em coming all you want!! Best regard, Markjay

Ok, Olaf, I'm glad you said that b/c I wanted to say that but someone is thinking I'm mean if I don't just slather on the oooohs and aaaaahs without respecting the photographers right to hear the full brunt of my honesty. Now, since you've broken the ice, I will say my thoughts on it. What was bugging me was that she's not quite centered, but definitely not off-center enough to look intentionally off-center. So, it tends to look like an error or misjudgement on the photog's part. I'd be fine with a centered comp since it's a peaceful image and b/c we've got the diagonal lines of the of the water adding a bit of life to things. Personally, I always shoot stuff like this off center, but I think there's nothing wrong with centering this one, as long as it's actually centered. BOY I really love the way that reflection looks!

Please just politely tell me to my face to shut up already. I am fine with that.

WOW! What a brilliant and wonderful name 'Three piece denim' would be for an image! Who could have thouth of such a creative and masterful title as .... oh, er, um, ahem... never mind. ;) ~ Lonnit

OK, taking you up on 'I welcome any and all comments' part, here's one thought: This composition is very central with almost the same amount of space on all sides of the main subject. I would have liked to see more space in front of the girl (on the right side of the picture) - maybe even a landscape orientation of the shot and zoomed out a bit to get the same space above and below the girl. Absolutely on topic for this challenge, though. Funny: 'Three piece denim' would fit this photo even better than the one already bearing that title...

Pbase does not change the original sized image. It creates 'small', 'medium' - and if the original is over 800px in any dimension - also a 'large' versions of the shot. The Pbase generated images will be poor compared to the original, but the original is untouched. When you notice a difference once you see the image through Pbase, it is probably due to the fact that it is _not_ color managed in your browser (only on a Mac will you find color managed browsers), while it most likely _is_ in your photo editing software...

I never "get the images right" for pbase uploading. They're many time too "light" or appear to exhibit not enough contrast... partly because they appear to be lightened by Pbase upon upload. I guess I shall have to tweak this one a tad, just so Pbase can exhibit the image as it is on my monitor :-) Thank you for your comment, I welcome any and call comments. Markjay

Very nice feeling here. I think it needs the slightest tad more contrast - I do mean very slight. I LOVE the texture of the water on the shore, particularly in the reflection area. ~ Lonnit
