Oh, baby - does Lonnit make errors big time! I just don't post them - well except for my current eligible which was clearly a HUGE mistake according to popular opinion! LOL! ;) ~ Lonnit

Yes, Lonnit, Cropping to Print is...forgive me, A Son of a Bitch! This makes me crazy at times. I am pleased to know that this is what happened. However, at some darker level of my soul, I was kind of hoping that this was a framing error....lol. You know, kind of to prove that Lonnit makes errors also. But no! Lonnit has a perfectly logical and reasonable explanation. Darn it...lol. But this is still a really wonderful Portrait! Best Wishes, and Be Good, Traveller

It was a sacrifice for the betterment of the overall composition. It didn't seem like a critical chop being that most of the arm is there, so it is implied that the rest is in tact although not visible. I like to keep my ratios standard to the 2:3 proportion. At this point though, I believe I was consistantly using a golden rectangle. If it were printed as an 8x10 there'd be enough room for the arm, but not at 2:3 or golden. Man, I wish all standard print sizes maintained a consistant aspect ratio. One must consistantly recrop depending upon print size. I cannot fathom how photogs allow a lab to go cropping willy-nilly. I'm so anal about composition; I could never allow someone else to go chopping up my pix. Meanwhile, get this - when I make my competition prints - I don't think I've got two prints the same ratio! LOL! In those I crop to whatever proportions necessary to put the elements of the image in their ideal places. At least I'm maintaining analality. LOL! ~ Lonnit

Dearest Lonnit...if I may point to a nit, but it is something on my mind regarding this image. I love the textures, but...(and there is always that, But, no?)...just why is the child's left arm cut off a little? Is this a framing mistake or is something going on off to the left of the child, right of the image, that needed to be excluded? This is not a crucial problem, but I was curious. Best Wishes, Traveller

Isn't Traveller just brilliant? Sigh...... ~ Lonnit, giggling!

Well, I agree with Lonnit, (why work it again?), and disagree with MJ. But, my opinion is not to re-work it because it's done, but rather because I find the very subtle, and that's the key, yellow to work well in blending in with the Sepia tone...and yet staying distinct. It is not overpowering and adds to the image, IMHO. Honest people can honestly disagree. Best Wishes, Traveller (in other words leave it alone because it was done right the first time).

Thanks, MJ. You might be right about the OJ. The image is two years old. I was experimenting with selective desatting and this was what I came up with. Since it's old, I've not much desire to go play with it - you know, it's like I'm past it already. I never have much passion for redoing old images. Your comments are noted though, and appreciated. :) Thanks much. ~ Lonnit

Great shot, Lonnit!! I will say that IMO (*) the orange juice could look more pleasing in a B & W image / scene. It just feels a little "out of place" for me visually, in sepia.
Keeping the OJ in sepia or as is in a B & W image IMO could work better visually. The pose and expression are really great, Lonnit! Markjay

The maturity of anonymity is simply overwhelming. Absolutlely pathetic. How about erasing your comments and coming back as yourself - no one will ever know - and having an actual discussion. Perhaps you'll learn something. Perhaps you'll teach something. ~ Lonnit

This is really Excellent, Lonnit. the selective de-sat doesn't hurt at all but adds a nice and subtle touch. Best Wishes, Traveller
