Blowing a Kiss to Mars *

Austin, Texas

This is my first moon picture with this lens (handheld). The weather for viewing the conjunction is perfect, although I'd have preferred cloudier weather for more interest. Maybe later tonight...

I like the composition. I really like the way you captured the conjunction. It does look like the eye or lips of the moon are aimed right at mars :)

By the way, I'd be interested in specific comments about the following elements of the picture that I spent a good deal of time on: aspect ratio, overall composition, color. Part of my idea with the framing was to have the moon by virtue of its position relative to the frame pointing to Mars. The large crater closest to Mars is almost like a pupil. Or, keeping with the theme of my presentation here, puckered lips.

I agree with the comment about being overprocessed. Here's another version with the layers blended slightly differently. Still too overprocessed? By the way, I went back out to get another picture, and it was so overcast that the moon was not visible, far less Mars. At times, the pair were visible, and the clouds were going in the direction of Mars to the moon. That might have made for an interesting time exposure.

I really likd this...the moon is a tad over processed and I hope people see Mars in the lower right corner...but still very nice and very smart. Best Wishes, Traveller
